DVLA Regulations
The DVLA is the driver and vehicle licensing agency. It is the government agency that is responsible for the drivers and vehicles of the UK. Drivers must have good vision in order to get a license.
Driving Criteria
In order to be eligible for a car/motorcycle license, the following criteria must be fulfilled (using corrective lenses if required)
- Read a post-September 2001 number plate at 20m
- Visual acuity ≥ 6/12
- Horizontal visual field of 120° with 50° of extension in either direction
- No visual field defects within 20° of the horizontal meridian
Where a driver is diagnosed with a condition which makes them unlikely to satisfy these conditions, the DVLA must be notified.
